The thought of working their whole life, only to lose a big part, if not all, of their life savings because of a debilitating illness scares people as they approach retirement. Most people do not realize that their health insurance (including Medicare and Medicare Supplements) will not cover most of the expenses that result from needing long term care. There are two basic types of care that are utilized when some one is in a situation where they need long term care.

skilled nursing care- This is the care that is provided by skilled medical professionals, hence the name. This includes skilled care necessary for therapy, injections, bandage dressings, tests, etc.
